I had a dream features 100 hand-decorated notebooks made by young creative talents during the Moleskine Foundation’s AtWork educational workshop tour in 2018.
The Moleskine Foundation traveled to Rome, N’Djamena, Kampala and Harare, and involved 100 participants from across the creative disciplines and four national cultural institutions. The workshops were curated and conducted by Simon Njami, and co-led by the photographer Andrew Tshabangu and the curator Elise Atangana. Under their guidance the participants debated, critiqued and exchanged about their dreams. The creative outcome of these reflections was poured into a notebook by each participant, producing the 100 dream-projects exhibited here.
The works of the AtWorkers are in dialogue with pieces by internationally renowned creatives from the Moleskine Foundation Collection, some commissioned especially for the exhibition at The Africa Center. These include Spike Jonze, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Jean-Claude Ellena, Joël Andrianomearisoa, Joana Vasconcelos, Carlo Stanga and Paula Scher.
I had a dream is AtWork’s first major international exhibition. The partnership between The Africa Center and the Moleskine Foundation reflects the two organizations’ shared values and purpose around fostering creativity among youth around the world, with a particular focus on innovation and inclusivity.
Notebooks made during the AtWork workshops in Rome, N’Djamena, Kampala, and Harare can also be viewed online via Google Arts & Culture.
