On Wednesday, December 6th from 7:00PM – 8:00PM The Africa Center proudly presents Revelations on Mandela’s Legacy: A Conversation with Justice Malala and Jonny Steinberg. Join us for an insightful and engaging conversation as these two prominent authors discuss their newly released books on the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela with moderator Jody Jacobs. This unique event offers a deep dive into the complexities, challenges, and profound impact of one of the most iconic figures in modern history.

Jody Jacobs  is a Television Correspondent based at the United Nations in New York. He has been a media specialist for over 15 years’, having worked in various facets of the newsroom and has worked across various media platforms. During his career he has worked for local South African radio and television stations including the public broadcaster, SABC and eNCA. He was part of a team that launched a 24-hour news station in Nigeria, TVC News, where he eventually became the Southern Africa correspondent and Africa editor.

Prior to his arrival in New York, Jody held various senior positions within the local South African television space, with his last position there being that of News Group Operations Manager for the South African independent 24-hour news station, eNCA. Having been a Television Correspondent at both SABC and eNCA from the early 2000s, Jody rose to prominence as a fearless on-screen journalist covering an array breaking news stories from strikes to protests, earthquakes in Haiti and the tsunami in Japan. Besides now working for various television and radio stations around the world, Jody also does media training. He recently spent one month in India, assisting the public broadcaster, DD India with relaunching their new english service.

Justice Malala is one of South Africa’s foremost political commentators and the author of the #1 bestseller We Have Now Begun Our Descent: How to Stop South Africa Losing its Way. A longtime weekly columnist for The Times (South Africa), his work has also appeared in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, and Financial Times, among other outlets. The former publisher of The Sowetan and Sunday World, he now lives in New York.

Jonny Steinberg is the author of several books about everyday life in the wake of South Africa’s transition to democracy. A two-time winner of South Africa’s premier nonfiction award and an inaugural winner of the Donald Windham-Sandy M. Campbell Literature Prize, Steinberg was professor of African Studies at Oxford University and currently teaches part-time at Yale and at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WiSER) in Johannesburg.
