Programs Live Soundscaping with Dial-an-Ancestor
What outlives places, spaces or sets of people once they shift, move and evolve like the African diaspora so often does? The rhythm, the voices, the calls across lands that don't get photographed but don't leave us either…
Join us for an evening of conversation, memory, and collective sound-making at The Africa Center on October 21st. We'll gather in small circles to talk about the neighbourhoods, people, and everyday sounds that shaped us : the ones changing, the ones already gone and the ones we're still carrying.
From there, you're invited to call Dial-an-Ancestor's hotline and add your own voice to a growing archive of diasporic memory. As the night unfolds, some of tonight's voices will find their way into the DJ's live set — the room becoming, quite literally, the sound of itself as the archive keeps growing around you.
No performance required. No experience necessary. Just come ready to talk, and to listen.
Dial-an-Ancestor is a 24/7 public service hotline spanning 2021-2121 by Tamaka Abaka-Wood.
